Butterfly Sims 036 Fixed and Retextured

Weird thing about most Butterfly Sims hairs - the undersides have more polygons than the parts of the hair that are actually visible. I dunno if it’s a mistake, or some brilliant piece of meshing that’s gone way over my head or what, but I reduced the polys for the undersides. The LOD0 poly count has been lowered from 17000 to about 9000, which is still on the high side, but much better than it was before. I also retextured it, added all the missing LODs, fixed the hair ties (on the original version you can only recolor the beads, the ties themselves use the hair texture for some reason), and converted it for children and toddlers.

The hair looks fine in game, but there's a weird shine on it when you view it on the Create A Sim screen. I've been trying to fix it for a couple of days, but nothing I do changes it at all. I'm uploading these anyway, since I can't find any problems during normal game play, but I'll come back and edit them if I ever manage to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Fixed! The new version is exactly the same as the old one, except it looks a little better in Create-A-Sim.

Available for females of all ages.

  2. This looks great, I was hoping someone would convert it for children and toddlers! And that's great you lowered the poly count and fixed the hair ties too, thanks.

Anon is right, the newest Butterfly hair is also in desperate need of a retexture!

  3. Thank you so much for reducing the polycount. Even though my computer can handle it, 17000 is insane for such a simple hair. Also thank you for retexturing it, it looks great, specially on kids.

  10. Thanks everyone, I'm glad you all like it!

I might do something with the 37 hair eventually. I'm not really a fan of it, but it seems popular and it's probably missing all the LODs like this one was, so someone really should fix any issues it has. There are a couple hair conversions I'm nearly done with that I want to finish up first, but maybe once I'm done with those...

  11. i'd love to have these but can't use package files, any chance you could offer sims3pack option?

  12. No sims3pack for this one, sorry. The only program I know of that can convert files to sims3packs is TSR Workshop, and Workshop crashes whenever I try to do anything with this hair.

  13. Do you have any CC "Hair" for The Sims 2 available for download?

    any website suggestions?! Thanks!

  14. Nope, I only make Sims 3 stuff. Mod The Sims is a pretty good place to start if you're looking for Sims 2 hair: http://www.modthesims.info/browse.php?f=372&showType=1&gs=1

  15. Hi Rei, this is a beautiful re-texture/fix!!
I have one problem though, lol..I unfortunately can't download the teen-elder plain ties version from 4shared, it said it was deleted due to terms of user agreement. :'(

  16. Never mind!! For some strange reason it works after I tried to download it after an hour. xDD

  17. Hi Reis! I notice you mentioned that you reduced the polys for the undersides. Would you mind telling me how to do that? I can't seem to isolate JUST the undersides in milkshape, do you think you can tell me what I'm doing wrong/how to do that? I found a hair that I'd really like to fix, but the polycount is rather massive, and the undersides could use reducing, and the Sims 2 version won't be available for a while.

I know that you think you aren't very good at explaining, but if you wouldn't mind just pointing me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. I think I'm somewhat proficient with Milkshape now, so I think I'd be able to understand or figure out most of your direction.

    I hope you see this,
    Moose

  18. Milkshape has a hide faces tool that you can use to get rid of the undersides. It will let you hide the front faces, which will make them unselectable, and then you can select the back faces/undersides and move or delete them without the front faces getting in the way.

Go to the "Face" menu up at the top of the screen, and select the "Hide Faces" option from the list. You'll get a popup menu that will ask you to select a viewport, and to choose whether you want to hide the back faces or front faces. If you choose, for example, top viewport and front faces, it will hide any faces that are oriented towards the top of the workspace. Top viewport and back faces will do the opposite and hide any faces oriented towards the bottom of the workspace. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

Depending on the mesh you're working with, you might have to regroup or move a few pieces around in order to get at all the undersides. I usually go to the texture coordinator editor and select vertices there - it seems easier than trying to do it in 3D view - and then either regroup your selected faces or just move them forward by 0.5 on the z axis or something, so the rest of the mesh isn't in your way. This makes it a lot easier to do bone assignments, too. For this hair, I think I did three or four pieces - the parts below the hair ties, the part above the hair ties, and the bangs and little floaty bits up top. If you regroup, just make sure to keep everything in the correct order so you don't get any transparency issues.

Hopefully this helps a bit. It shouldn't be too difficult, just boring and time consuming.

  19. Thank you so much! I had myself convinced that I would have to convert any SkySims or ButterflySims hair that I wanted to retexture ever. It was quite daunting, although I might just do it anyway for the experience of it all, truth be told.

Thank you so much for being patient with me and helping me out with all this stuff. I can basically attribute most of my newfound ability to actually do basic meshwork to you, so thank you for all of your help.
